Default Re: Windows 7 update bug (big time)

Q6600 at 3.2Ghz with 2x2048mb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800MHZ, with on an Abit IP35 Pro, mounted to this is a 8800GTS G92 512MB GDDR3 PCi-E gpu, and the HD is a WD 250GB SATA2.

I run Windows 7 no problem, along with multiple other programs at once. Often it's not down to the software it's down to the user, as I have seen Windows 7 running smooth on lesser spec machines than yours Anth, no offense but you may want to look into tweaks and configurations.

Also upgrading your operating system is not a fair balance to doing a clean wipe and reformat to the new operating system.

I have installed W7 on a Dell Optiplex 620 which is a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz, 1gb RAM & sata drive. Not what is considered a high spec machine these days but it works fine.

W7 is a vast improvement on Vista.

I didnt upgrade, it was a fresh install. I build the system made sure it worked in XP, then wiped the drive and installed Windows 7.Worked OK, but sluggish for about a week, then it just refused to show me the login screen so I felt going back to XP pro with SP3 (legit) was the better option.Windows XP flies, boots up in seconds, handles everyhting I thorw at it, including (surprisingly for this processor) video encoding, DVD Burning and internet browsing/downloading together.
